Hook Kids on Fishing starts at 9 a.m.     Other Events 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 
 
  • Discover opportunities to explore and enjoy the natural areas of Brevard County. Kayakers
  • Meet people and organizations involved with the environmental aspects of Brevard County.
  • Delve into the history and archaeology of the Indian River Lagoon region.
  • Listen to music performed by outstanding local musicians.
  • Attend workshops.
  • Make oyster mats to help restore the Indian River Lagoon.
  • Take an eco-cruise on the Dolphin Girl pontoon boat (extra charge).
  • Experience a brief guided kayak trip in Sykes Creek with Indian River Outfitters.
  • Hook Kids on Fishing - free clinic on casting, conservation and knot tying for kids ages 6 to 16. Adult accompaniment required.
  • Games, crafts and other activities for children.

Entry Fee: $1 per person (no charge under 2 yr.)

Activities
Dolphin GirlTake a voyage on Sykes Creek with Dolphin Girl Cruises and Eco-Tours.  A 20 person pontoon  boat will operate continuously from 11 AM until 4 PM.  When the previous group unloads and the next group boards, the boat will depart for a 25 minute cruise.   The cost is $2 per adult and $1 per child (under 16 years).

Join a group of paddlers for a 30 minute trip around an island in Sykes Creek.  Demonstration kayaks and assistance will be provided by Indian River Outfitters.  Florida Master Naturalists will accompany each tour to serve as interpretive guides.  Visit www.iroutfitters.com

Workshops (Information subject to change. Check back)
Weaving11:00 A.M.  Weaving Demonstration.  Viola Pace Knudsen and Nancy Bindig, artists and teachers, will demonstrate weaving techniques.  Audience members are invited to work on team projects to produce baskets for the raffle.  Viola and Nancy will complete the baskets which will be raffled to benefit the Wildlife Care Center.

12:15 P.M.  Getting Started with Geocaching.  Dale Swinehart of the Space Coast Geocaching GeocacheAssociation.  Do you like outdoor activities, going to the park, hiking in the woods or canoeing/kayaking?  Then this could be just what you have been looking for - a family friendly activity that everyone can enjoy.  Whether you are a kid, adult or retired this can be enjoyed by all.  It is a high tech treasure hunt that you can do all over the world.  People everywhere are joining in and finding places they never knew anything about.  Join us to learn more!

1:30 P.M.  Photographing Birds of the Indian River Lagoon Region.  Tom Dunkerton, a member of Nikon's Prostaff Birding Team, will share his knowledge and passion of nature photography.  Tom has developed an exception knowledge of the birds that visit the Indian River Lagoon area.  He leverages his avian knowledge with excellent photographic skills to capture prize-winning images.

2:30 P.M.  Growing Your Own Plants from Seed.  Kari Ruder of NaturewiseNaturewise (www.naturewiseplants.com)  will share her tips and tricks for successfully growing native and edible plant seeds. Come see what a good seed starting media looks like, learn what seeds need to germinate, learn how to correctly plant seeds, learn how to care for seedlings, and see what pots or containers work best.  Free seeds packets will be available from the Florida Wildflower Foundation.

11:00 A.M. Laura Clark.  Native American Flute
12:15 P.M. String Theory.  D. Scott Taylor, Bill Stuart, Ken Parker.  Their music String Therapyblends Contemporary songs with Traditional, American Folk, Celtic, Swing, Spirituals, Blues and Bluegrass.
1:30 P.M. Chris Kahl.  Guitarist, singer, songwriter.
2:45 P.M. Good Time'N.  Melissa and Tom Dundis, Lynn  and Joe Gray.  A bluegrass band from Cocoa Beach.  Hopefully they will perrform their original piece entitled Ulumay.
