Scottsmoor
Land Purchase Approved
The Environmentally Endangered Lands
Program first attempted to purchase of a portion of this
property in 1991, but negotiations were unsuccessful.
Seventeen years later, the Brevard County Commission approved the purchase which now includes 1523
acres.
This purchase consists of three properties:
1. Scottsmoor Partners - 854 acres - W of U.S. 1, South of
5A
2. AG Ventures McIntosh - 540 acres - W. of I-95
3. AG Ventures Saddlebrook - 129 acres - E of I-95, S of
5A
These properties include a broad variety of wetland and upland
habitats - including scrub ridge, forested wetlands, depression
marshes and pine flatwoods. These properties
collectively represent the largest parcel of privately owned
land in Brevard County that is available to the EEL Program as
conservation land.
Thirty-three persons spoke in favor of this purchase
at this meeting. Friends of Ulumay speakers included Jim
Durocher, Barb Venuto, Jack Lembeck, Tim Kozusko and Vince Lamb
were among these speakers. Other speakers who are
familiar to the Friends of Ulumay included Barbara Hoelsher
(Friends of Enchanted Forest), Laurilee Thompson (Dixie
Crossroads), Keith Winsten (Brevard Zoo), Maureen Rupe, Mary
Hillberg, Lyle Zody, Doug Sphar and Mary Sphar (Sierra Club). |

Thanks to everyone who attended this
meeting to support this purchase of conservation lands.
Also, many thanks to the County Commissioners for approving this
historic purchase. |
